Mobility Transition
In 2016, Tilburg transitioned from the traditional traffic and transportation plan to the Mobiliteitsaanpak013. Since then, the challenges have significantly evolved. In particular, the urban development task of accommodating 30,000 homes and 30,000 jobs by 2040 demands a reassessment: are we doing the right things, and are we doing them the right way? The city of Tilburg recognized that the mobility transition is just one piece of the puzzle in managing urban growth.
Over the past year, together with the mobility policy team in Tilburg, we led a procedural and substantive reassessment of the Tilburg Mobility Approach. Through interactive sessions using the X-curve and scenario thinking, we established four guiding principles to shape the mobility transition more swiftly and adaptively. Steering a (mobility) transition involves not only content but also process, role, and attitude. The results will be incorporated into Tilburg’s policy.
