What was the question?

By 2030, Heijmans aims to be a shaper of the living environment and to lead the way in sustainability and social transitions. However, innovation had become disconnected from day-to-day work: the Hive Clubhouse, intended as a space for experimentation, had become just another workplace. The real question was not how to revitalise that space, but how to embed innovation structurally within the organisation.

What have we done?

Yellowchess supported Heijmans in designing ‘Vernieuwingskracht’: an organisation-wide core process for innovation. A session with members of the executive board helped to clarify the actual issue; building on that, we worked together to design the structure, approach and culture for structural renewal.

What were the results?

We worked our way from an external perspective, through experimentation, to implementation. ‘Innovation Power’ has been launched and is being applied organisation-wide; the Hive Clubhouse is once again playing an active role as a space for co-creation.

How can you turn innovation from a side issue into a core competence? Heijmans posed the question and, together with Yellowchess, built the answer.
